About This Quote
In this quote from the book, To Die for One's Country is Glorious, by James A. Michener, he makes an interesting point that history is written by the victors. As a result, the victors write the history books. In addition, they also write a lot of lies and fantasies about what happened to achieve their victory.
He goes on to say that the victors write the legends or stories. And finally, he discusses how authors have a tendency to write fanciful, romanticized versions of history as well as legends and false historical facts to promote their own agendas. He concludes that only death is certain.
